Former Springbank Project opponent agrees to sell land to Province

On Tuesday, the Government of Alberta announced that the Sprinkbank landowners, the Robinson family, had agreed to sell the land required for the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir Project (SR1). The land purchase amounts to 188 hectares (465 acres) and, with this latest acquisition, the province has now purchased 20 percent of the total 1,566 hectares (3,870 acres)

New penalties for ignoring disaster evacuation orders

As of November 19, 2018, citizens ignoring evacuation orders are now subject to fines up to $10,000 and/or up to one year in jail. These penalties are part of an amendment to the Emergency Management Act, the act that provides the legislative framework for local and provincial management of emergencies and disasters.
